The first question everyone asks about Faches-Thumesnil is, "Where is it?"
Well, Faches-Thumesnil (let's just call it Faches) is a suburb of Lille and has a population of around 16,000 inhabitants. It is located on the southern side of Lille along with its neighbouring suburbs of Lesquin, Ronchin, Templemars, Vendeville and Wattignies.
Its location makes it very easy for exchange visits to take place since, if you don't mind an early start, you can catch an early-morning ferry at Dover and be in Faches for lunch. On the return journey, with the extra hour that the time difference gives you, you have enough time for that essential last minute shopping.

As well as being twinned with St Neots, Faches has a number of other twin towns namely: Cattolica in Italy; Stolberg in Germany; Naoussa in Greece and Tinkare in Mali. On top of that Faches is also linked with: Hodonin in the Czech Republic; Stolberg in the Harz mountains of Germany and Naoussa Paros in Greece.
