Exchange Visit - May 2008
Over the May bank holiday we received a group of 16 visitors from Faches, including several members of their town council. On their arrival they were welcomed by the Mayor, Bob Eaton, at the St Neots Tennis Club and after a light libation it was off for an informal evening with their host families.
Sunday was to be a busy day
so hopefully no one over indulged the night before. We started off with a
very informative guided tour of St Albans which by masterly planning
finished just in time for lunch. After lunch we visited the Abbey, but
without a guide this time, and were pleased to find that one of the
volunteers spoke excellent French.
With time fast running out we hurried back for the crowning glory of the weekend - The Ascentiontide concert at St Neots parish church. It was performed as "The Last Night of the Proms" by the St Neots Sinfonia and the St Neots Choral Society. With much waving of the Union Flag and a good dollop of audience participation it was greatly enjoyed by all.
Monday was the last day of the visit and as there were a number of visitors who had never been to Cambridge we laid on a do-it-yourself guided tour around the American Cemetery, the colleges and the market square. George, as ever, rose to the challenge and it all sounded highly plausible. After a quick lunch and a spot of shopping it was back to Faches for the visitors after another great weekend.
